Two men with alleged links to the Comanchero outlaw motorcycle gang have been arrested after detectives seized eight firearms, ammunition and drugs from two homes in the Lake Illawarra overnight.
Firearms and Organised Crime Squad detectives had received information that a number of firearms were being stored at homes in Nolan Street, Berkeley, and Paperbark Street, Albion Park Rail.
Investigators executed search warrants at the homes about 6.30pm yesterday (Thursday 12 July 2012) with two men placed under arrest.
A 36-year-old man was charged with possess prohibited firearm (x3); not keep firearm safe (x3); possess unregistered firearm (x3); possess ammunition without a permit (x6); and possess prohibited weapon (x3). He was refused bail to face Wollongong Local Court today.
Police will allege that at the man’s home they located a semi-automatic rifle with two loaded magazines; a shortened semi-automatic shotgun; a shortened semi-automatic rifle which had been converted to being fully-automatic; and about 1000 rounds of assorted ammunition.
A 24-year-old Albion Park Rail man was charged with possess unregistered firearm (x5); not keep firearm safe (x2); possess ammunition without a permit; and possess prescribed restricted substance. He was granted conditional bail to face Wollongong Local Court on 7 August 2012.
Police will allege that at his home they located a single-barrel shotgun; two .22 calibre rifles; two air rifles; assorted ammunition; and a quantity of steroids.
A third man was issued with a court attendance notice for posses prohibited drug, after an amount of cannabis was allegedly found at the Albion Park Rail home.
